João VI 960 Reis 1820-R MS62 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM326.1, LMB-478D, Bentes-443.20. Small castle/JAE monogram within 0 variety. A highly collectible and among the most sought-after varieties in the 960 Reis series; the engraver's initials are seen within the "0" of "960," seemingly appearing as a small castle. Particularly attractive, the abundant mint luster flashes through the legends, populated by a mottled iridescence most notable to the obverse, while the reverse exhibits a pleasing allover peach to apricot patina. NGC notes this example as the sole finest, with one other as an XF details sold in January of this year.
