German States
Saxony. Johann Georg I 2 Taler 1650-CR UNC Details (Obverse Tooled, Graffiti) NGC, Dresden mint, KM435, Dav-LS395, Dassdorf-801 var. (legend). 57.99gm. A wholly enticing offering boasting a scarce portrait style of Johann Georg I donned in full plate armor and struck in celebration of the Peace of Westphalia. Light tooling and graffiti noted by the holder is generally muted on the expansive, uniformly argent planchet, which lends itself well to the as-struck and appropriately rendered motifs. NGC erroneously attributes this as Dav-LS391, the 6 Taler variety. A type rarely seen crossing the auction block, especially this well preserved.
