AUSTRALIA. Capped die error. George VI. AR florin. 11.24 gm. 27 mm. 1944. His head left / Australian arms. KM 40. Extremely Fine; toned; a very unusual error.

A rare occurrence caused by a struck coin not ejecting. As additional blanks are fed in the reverse of the initial coin acts as a die resulting in a brockage for that piece. In time, after more blanks are inserted, the cap metal is pushed around the buildup. When it finally comes away the obverse of the initial piece, the cap piece, is present but somewhat flattened. The edges of the coin are curled around creating a thimble effect.
