Umayyads of Spain, Caliphate of Cordoba, Hisham II AR Dirham. Madinat Fas (Fez) mint, undated (AH 397?), AH 366-399 / AD 976-1009. Kalima in three lines across field, citing "al-Hajib" below; around mint formula without date after "sanat" / "The Imam Hisham, Commander of the Faithful, al-Mu'ayyad", in three lines across field, citing "al-Hajib" above; Qur'an IX, 33 around. Vives 664; Miles 336f; cf. Saenz-Diez p. 54. 2.21g, 24mm, 9h.
Very Fine; slight double striking. Very Rare.
From the inventory of a European dealer.
This strange characteristic of the absence of date and citing twice al-Hajib in caliphal dirhams is very rare. Vives only reports one specimen, the same cited by Miles and Sáenz-Díez, placing it chronologically as an issue of the year AH 397 (AD 1007). However, no dated specimens with the same distribution are known.
