PAMPHYLIA. Side. Severus Alexander, 222-235. Pentassarion (Bronze, 27 mm, 10.34 g, 12 h). Legend indistinct Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander to right. Rev. CΙΔΗΤΩΝ Athena standing left, depositing ostraca held in right hand into voting urn at her feet, and holding palm branch in left. Cf. BMC 93 (for the same reverse, but Gordian III). Lindgren & Kovacs -. Lindgren III -. McClean -. Mionnet -. RPC IX - (reverse similar to 1150 for Trajan Decius). SNG BN -. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Hunterian -. SNG von Aulock -. Weber -. Dark patina with light deposits; impressive portrait. Unpublished in the standard references.. Very fine.

A thorough check of the standard references for the coinage of Side shows a few examples of this reverse, but none in the name of Severus Alexander. The identification of this coin to Severus Alexander - since the obverse legend is illegible - is based on a comparison of dies that were almost certainly cut by the same engraver and that are clearly legible (see, for example, Savoca online auction 23, 2018, 293).
