ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Wessex. Æthelstan. 924-939. AR Penny (22mm, 1.58 g, 10h). Bust Crowned (BC) type (BMC viii). 'Smrie' mint; Eadbald, moneyer. + ÆÐEΓSTΛN REX, crowned, helmeted, draped bust right / + EADBAΓD NO ZMRIE, small cross pattée. Blunt, Aethelstan 293; SCBI 34 (BM), 152 (same obv. die); North 675; SCBC 1095. Minor rim repair & some light marks under artificial tone. Otherwise struck on a broad flan with a bold portrait and clear legends. Good VF. Extremely rare.

Reportedly found near Dereham, Norfolk, 2020.
