ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan to al-Walid I ibn 'Abd al-Malik. AH 65-96 / AD 685-715. Æ Pashiz (24mm, 0.94 g, 7h). Arab-Byzantine type. Imitating obverse of Heraclius with Heraclius Constantine. Uncertain mint in Fars or Khuzestan. Struck circa AH 70-90, or later (AD 690-710, or later). Facing busts of Heraclius (older) and Heraclius Constantine (younger), both wearing chlamys and elaborate crown with cross; cross in field above; pseudo-legend around / Figure standing facing; 3-line Pahlavi legend to right, the first reading y'nbwt' (= "Gyānbūd"), the other two likely blundered. Malek, Arab-Sasanian 1541–2; Gyselen type 80; cf. Album 43B; ICV –. Brown surfaces, some roughness. Near VF. Very rare.
