Persis - Rulers under Parthian sovereignty, 100 BC - end of 1st cent AD - Pakor II - AR Hemidrachm (2.03 g), large die on wide flan. Overstruck on a non-Persis coin. Bust of bearded king, with large hair tuft, left. / similar. Traces of Aramaic legend (Pakor King) - (Alram 589 / ZENO 269039 / Van 't Haaff 589n, this coin) - good VF, extremely rare, RRR. Note: One of the essential characteristics of the relation between vassal states and their overlords was the obligation to provide military support in times of war. Although there are no extant written documents describing military support by the Persis kings to their Parthian overlords, a small hoard of the Persis Kings Ardaxšīr II and this coin of Pakor II overstruck on non-Persis coins may prove such a support obligation.
