Lots VOC / Dutch Indies - Small box with VOC, Ceylon, contemporary imitation of AE 4¾ stiver or ½ larin (69.15 g.), ND, c.1785 and a modern tourist imitation of 4¾ stiver (41.98 g.). Shortage of silver currency forced the VOC authorities at Ceylon to produce copper ½ larin denominations made from Japanese copper bars which they had in stock. As the coins got quickly counterfeited, they were soon re-called and used for the production of copper dudu's. Not an original specimen, but from monetairy point of view still interesting. aVF
