INDIA, Post-Mauryan (Deccan). Anonymous cast coinage. Unit (Lead, 24 mm, 9.52 g, 2 h), struck by the Hiranyaka dynasty, circa 3rd-4th centuries. Horde standing right; before, pellet (solar symbol?); above, srivatsa. Rev. Traces of six-arched hill left and tree-in-railing right. Mitchiner SI-I, 134. Rare. Good fine.


These heavy uninscribed coins were issued by the Hiranyakas in south-central Karnataka/Andhra Pradesh. They were feudatories to the Ikshvakus.
