ASIA MINOR. Uncertain. 2nd-3rd centuries. Tessera (Lead, 16 mm, 4.05 g), Myon. MY-ΩN Victory advancing right, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond in her left. Rev. Blank. Cf. Rostovtsev, Римские свинцовые тессеры (1903), 55 (Three Graces in wreath on reverse). Gülbay & Kireç 11-12. Very fine.
From a collection of lead tesserae from Asia Minor.
Gülbay & Kireç read VM-NΩ, but the legend can also be read outwardly, MV-ΩN. "Myon" means "muscle bundle" in ancient Greek and as a pars pro toto may be understood as a nickname for a strong, muscular man. Myon is attested as a magistrate's name on coins from several mints in Asia Minor.
