ASIA MINOR. Uncertain. 2nd-3rd centuries. Tessera (Lead, 14 mm, 3.33 g). Dog standing to right, biting into prey; above and below, traces of a legend. Rev. Blank. Apparently unpublished. Very fine.
From a collection of lead tesserae from Asia Minor.
Hunting scenes are very common on Roman intaglio gems. See AG Wien 1806-1808 and Dembski, Carnuntum 798-799 for gems engraved with a very similar scene showing a lean dog biting into its prey.
