ROMAN. Circa 3rd century. Seal (Lead, 22 mm, 1.29 g). Athlete standing right, holding palm branch and crowning himself with wreath. Apparently unpublished. Very fine.
From a collection of lead tesserae from Asia Minor.
The ridge that is visible on the right side of the seal's surface is possibly a trace of the ring's bezel. If this is the case, the impression on this seal was created using a hardstone gem that was set in a ring.
