MEDIEVAL. Circa 8th-12th centuries. Weight (Orichalcum, 17x20 mm, 15.86 g). Two facing nimbate busts inlaid in silver. Rev. Large cross between decorative pellets; all inlaid in silver. Very fine.
This crude and curious weight differs from normal Byzantine weights in fabric and by the style of the cross. It likely dates to the medieval period, but where it was made is unclear.
