ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Yazid I ibn Mu'awiya, AH 60-64 / AD 680-683. Drachm (Silver, 27 mm, 2.79 g, 9 h), Arab-Sasanian type, citing governor Ziyad ibn Abi Sufyan (AH 44-54 = AD 665-673), GD (Jayy), AH 53 = AD 672/3. Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing elaborate mural crown; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, ZYYAT Y / ABWSPYYAN ('Ziyad ibn Abi Sufyan' in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah' in Kufic) and 'Rabbi' ('My Lord' in Kufic). Rev. Fire altar with ribbons flanked by two attendants; in upper left field, six-pointed star; in upper right field, crescent; to left, date; to right, GD (name of the mint in Pahlawi). Album 12.
