BURMA. Kingdom of Hamsavati. Circa 5th-6th centuries. Unit (Silver, 24 mm, 9.43 g, 5 h), Anonymous. Sankh (conch shell); around, circle of pellets. Rev. Yupa within srivatsa temple; below, two pellets. Mitchiner, South 518. Struck in high relief. Good very fine.

The beautiful conch on the obverse of this lovely issue is a symbol of the Hindu God Vishnu. The reverse, on the other hand, shows a yupa, a Vedic sacrificial pillar, in the shape of a srivatsa, the legendary mark on the chest of Vushnu, within a large temple.
