Photographic Reproduction of the 1803 Droz Report
Prony, et al. RAPPORT FAIT A LA CLASSE DES SCIENCES MATHÉMATIQUES ET PHYSIQUES DE L'INSTITUT NATIONAL, SUR DIVERSES INVENTIONS DE JEAN-PIERRE DROZ, RELATIVES A L'ART DU MONNOYAGE. Bound photographic reproduction of the original (Paris: Baudouin, Imprimeur de l'Institut National, Nivôse An XI [décembre 1802–janvier 1803]). Oblong 4to, later brown cloth, gilt. (4), 59, (1) pages; 4 plates (folded in original) signed by E. Collin, depicting coining presses and equipment, including Droz's segmented collar. Fine. An important publication, very rarely available. Matthew Boulton had this report translated into English for his own use. The plates are large and very interesting, being entirely devoted to coining technology, including the segmented collar Droz designed and which the Boulton firm continued to use even after it had been improved upon by James Lawson. This photographic reproduction was made for Richard Margolis by the Bibliothèque de l'Université, Paris. Ex Richard E. Margolis Library.
