Bolender Sale Rarity
Bolender, M.H. 184TH MAIL AUCTION SALE. THE LOUIS L. LINCOLN COLLECTION OF U.S. SILVER HALF-DOLLARS. ALSO CHOICE CONSIGNMENT OF EARLY AMERICAN SILVER DOLLARS FROM THE CABINETS OF AN EASTERN GENTLEMAN. PROOF CORONATION SET OF GEORGE VI OF ENGLAND, 1937. $4.00 GOLD PIECE 1879 PROOF. San Marino, April 8, 1953. Thin 8vo, original printed card covers. 16 pages; 313 lots. Near fine. Adams 184. Bolender's first sale held in California, to which he retired (more or less) after suffering a serious heart attack on Christmas Day 1951, brought on by shoveling snow for two hours in anticipation of visiting relatives. He survived, but the experience slowed him down. Managing with some help to sell his own collection in Sale 183, over a year passed before this slender but interesting sale was held. He acknowledged in Sale 185 that he had received many inquiries from collectors wondering why they had been dropped from his mailing list-clearly he had cut it drastically with the move out west. This catalogue is usually available only when we offer comprehensive sets of Bolender catalogues. The half dollar collection comprises the first 272 lots, with thirty lots of early dollars following.
