Bound Set of Penny-Wise & EAC Auction Catalogues
Early American Coppers. PENNY-WISE. Volumes I–XXXIX (1967–2005); consecutive issues 1–231, complete as bound in thirty-two volumes, including the Index for Volumes I–XX. All original copies. 4to, later blue and gray cloth; early volumes with spines lettered in silver, while later volumes feature black spine labels lettered in gilt. Includes many, perhaps all, early inserts. Early issues were folded for mailing and have occasional stains and markings; later issues mostly fine. Two volumes are misnumbered on the spine; included are a number of gilt-lettered black labels stamped with the appropriate lettering to standardize the earlier spine treatments, correct errors, and provide for future volumes if the next owner wishes to continue the set. Volumes as a whole are fine. [with] Early American Coppers. AUCTION CATALOGUES. Twenty-four consecutive auction catalogues from the EAC conventions for 1977–2000, bound in five volumes. 4to, russet cloth with marbled sides; spines lettered in gilt [final volume blank]; original printed paper or card covers bound in. Fine. [with] Early American Coppers. LATER UNBOUND ISSUES OF PENNY-WISE AND ANNUAL AUCTION CATALOGUES. Includes 49 issues of Penny-Wise, comprising all of the 2006, 2007 and 2009–2012 volumes and assorted issues through 2018, and annual auctions for 1975 and 1976 (issued by Pine Tree Auction Company), as well as 2001–2013 and 2017–2018. Also present are CDs with the digital version of EAC publications through 2011, the EAC Guide to Early American Coppers and other mailings. An attractively bound set of this indispensable source of information on United States large cents and half cents. Certainly the most lively, and perhaps the most important, specialized American numismatic periodical ever issued. The early volumes are rarely seen. The first 12 numbers of this set originally belonged to John W. Young (EAC #37); starting with number 13, they bear the mailing label of Ray D. Munde (EAC #141). They later belonged to William Wilt, from whom they were purchased by Roger Persichilli. The auction catalogues are another important resource for early copper enthusiasts. Stand-alone catalogues have been issued by the club itself for each year since 1977, compiled by various cataloguers. After 2000, the sales were spiral-bound, which makes binding more difficult. A great set for the dedicated EAC member. Ex Roger Persichilli Library.
