Rare 1862 Gwynne & Day Bank Note Register
Gwynne and Day, Bankers. THE DESCRIPTIVE REGISTER OF GENUINE BANK NOTES, FOR THE DETECTION OF SPURIOUS AND ALTERED BILLS, CONTAINING ACCURATE, ELABORATE AND PLAIN DESCRIPTIONS OF THE NOTES ISSUED BY EVERY BANK IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA, CONVENIENTLY ARRANGED FOR REFERENCE... New York, 1862. 4to, original intricately blindstamped brown cloth, gilt. 162 pages, with the main text ending at 144 and followed by a Supplement comprising pages 145–162. Spine a bit frayed; still very good or better. A very rare edition, though not the last: Dillistin records editions up through 1866 in his 1949 Bank Note Reporters and Counterfeit Detectors 1826-1866 (page 149). Copies of this edition were in the Champa and Newman Libraries, but it is worth noting that Ford's holdings did not include this edition. Ex Washington County Bank, according to a penciled note on the front flyleaf; ex Julius Guttag Library, with his ink stamp.
