The B. Max Mehl "Star Building"
Mehl, B. Max. A SUITE OF SIX COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS DEPICTING THE "STAR BUILDING" OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS. Commissioned by Armand Champa, July 15, 1992. All 8.5 by 11 inches. Loose. Fine. Commissioned by Armand Champa and taken by a local photographer in 1992, these photos show the Mehl Building as it existed at that time, long after the heyday of the erstwhile proprietor. Included are photos of: 1) the main doorway, Mehl's nameplate above, with Fugio copper over the door and recessed, intricate stone archway, all rendered poignant by a few missing letters in Mehl's name and the weeds impinging on the entryway; 2) the secondary doorway, with the numismatic image of an eagle with shield and arrows above it; 3) the entire long side of the three-story building with Mehl's office entries at the left; 4) a closer view of the preceding, emphasizing the decay (missing and boarded-up windows, etc.); 5) a view of both entries with two numismatically appointed windows between them; and 6) a view of the short side of the building to the right of the preceding views, with graffiti on the walls and boarded-up doors, it originally was the main entrance to the non-Mehl portion of the building.
