Stack's. THE AMON G. CARTER, JR. FAMILY COLLECTION OF UNITED STATES GOLD, SILVER & COPPER COINS. FOREIGN COINS. New York, January 18–21, 1984. 8vo, original blue cloth, gilt; original printed front card cover mounted. (4), 316 pages; 1798 lots; portrait; text illustrations; 28 color plates; prices realized list housed in pocket on rear cover. Mounted cover a little rubbed, as always. Fine. The Special Hardbound Edition. A most important sale featuring, among others, coins from the Dunham, Neil, Green, Atwater, Olson, Roe, Farouk, Roach, Granberg, Newcomer and Haseltine collections. According to the firm, the collection was "highlighted by the finest and most complete collection of U.S. Silver Dollars ever to be auctioned." Additionally, the series of pioneer and territorial gold coins was "unique in its own right," featuring thirty-one $50 slugs and many other great rarities. The first Stack's sale where the cataloguing is attributed to a single firm member, namely Norman Stack, who took great pride in this production. Ex John Dannreuther Library.
