ABBASID: al-Ma'mun, 810-833, AV dinar (4.27g), Madinat al-Salam, AH198, A-222.12A, Bernardi-99Jh, mint name madinat al-salam below obverse field, the vizier dhu'l-ri'asatayn below the reverse field, nice strike, EF, RR. This is the first known year for an Abbasid gold coin that bears the mint name, which was perhaps added to commemorate the conquest of Baghdad and the demise of the caliph al-Amin, the brother of al-Ma'mun, after four disruptive years of civil war.
