Shuh Tung (Shu Tong) Chinese Government Bank, Szechuan (Sichuan), 1000 cash, Jiang Ba, Chongqing, 23rd Year of Guangxu (1897), 'Ke' prefix serial number 488, vertical format, black woodblock printing on delicate white paper, traditional Chinese folk scenes within borders, handwritten denomination at centre, various official large red seals, reverse white, red seal at lower centre,(Pick not listed), PCGS Banknote 25 Very Fine (Minor Lower Edge Damage). The Shu Tung Bank began its operations in 1897 and ceased in 1899, a remarkably short lived operation even for the time. Due to its relatively smaller size and operating period suriving notes are extremely rare and this note is one of two to three known to date. A hitherto unkown and superb example and one of the most exciting notes offered in a public auction in recent years..

Estimate: 300000 - 500000
