The Ilkhanid dynasty was a Mongol dynasty ruling in Persia, up to the western edge of the Euphrates valley, in the 7th and 8th centuries AH/AD 13th-14th. The name of the dynasty indicates that they were dependent on the Great Khan (in Peking, China). Ghazan Khan (694-703 AH/AD 1295-1304) issued an edict ordering the standardization of the coinage in weight, fineness and type, and his standard double-dinar became the basis of Iran's monetary system for the 8th/14th century. Some changes in the design, in the legends, as well as in the standard weight of the Ilkhanid coins occasionally occurred. Uljaytu's first coins are similar to those of Ghazan Khan, but he replaced the Uighur legends with a combination of titles in Arabic according to the Islamic tradition: he converted from Sunni to Shi'a Islam, which explains the change of the legends
