Kroisos, Circa 564/53-550/39 BC. Stater (Gold, 16.5 mm, 10.72 g), Heavy standard, prototype issue, Sardes mint. Confronted foreparts of lion, with "sun" on forehead, and bull. Rev. Two incuse squares. Berk 1. Konuk & Lorber fig. 25 = CH VIII, pl. I, Hoard 7, no. 40. McClean 8635. Ward 723. A very early prototype heavy stater, and very rare. A few marks, otherwise, very fine.
