Tarentum. Circa 280 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.53 g, 8 h). Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to left; behind head, monogram of ΝIΚ. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΝΤΙΝΩΝ Eagle, with spread wings, standing on thunderbolt to right; above left, here off the flan, ΦΙ; in field to right, two amphorae, each surmounted by a star of eight rays; in exergue, ΝΙΚΑΡ. FB G 41e (this coin). HN III 983. Vlasto 38. Very rare. A most attractive and nicely centered coin, with a fine head of Zeus. Nearly extremely fine.
