Antiquities from Various Properties

Romano-British, enamelled bronze Dragonesque Brooch, of East Brigantian style, c. AD 75-175, 4.3cm x 2cm, flat plate brooch of S-shaped form with expanded body containing a rectangular panel with green enamel enclosing three yellow enamelled lozenge shaped cells; flanking this are large panels of blue enamel of wave form; at each end is a dragon's head joined to the body by a strut, head with a large ear and a turned up snout, eye with blue enamel and around the neck are the remains of the bronze pin (cf. Hattatt 152). Intact with an uneven green brown patina and around 70% of the enamel surviving £300-£400
