Commemorating the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I. The last of five monarchs of the House of Tudor, Elizabeth I was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death on 24 March 1603.
Fourth crowned head of Elizabeth II facing right; 'FIVE POUNDS' below; ELIZABETH · II D · G · REG · F · D around. Design by Ian Rank-Broadley. / Crowned portrait of Elizabeth I set within two mandorlas, intersections marked with Tudor roses and each side arch with an elaborate leaf pattern carving reminiscent of those made by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, the entire design inspired by the magnificent 'Armada' portrait by George Gower; separated by the four arches the inscription 'ELIZABETH REGINA' above, 'MDLVIII' and 'MMVIII' representing the anniversary dates (1558 and 2008) below. Design by Rod Kelly. Edge milled and inscribed (incuse lettering); I HAVE REIGNED WITH YOUR LOVES.
