The last in a series of 10 coins known as the Queen's Beasts series, each featuring one of the heraldic statues present at HM the Queen's coronation in 1953. The griffin is an ancient mythical beast; it has the winged body of a lion with the head of an eagle. It is found on the private seal of Edward III.
