HANOVER. George II. 1727-1760. CU Halfpenny (28mm, 9.15 g). Tower (London) mint. Dated 1751. Laureate and cuirassed bust left / Britannia seated left on globe, holding branch and scepter; garnished shield to right. Peck 881; SCBC 3719. Brown surfaces. Near VF. Dramatic rotated double strike.
The fascinating two-faced portrait on this coin is the result of a rotated double strike. Most unusually, the reverse is entirely free of any traces of double striking.
