Florian BI Antoninianus. Lugdunum, AD 276. IMP C M AN FLORIANVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust to right / AETERNITAS AVG, Aeternitas standing facing, head to left, holding globe and rudder; IIII in exergue. MER-RIC 4140 (temporary); Lyon 141e. 3.85g, 22mm, 7h.
Good Very Fine. A rare reverse die with the head of Aeternitas possibly as an animal's head.
Purchased from Lodge Antiquities, 10 April 2018 (sale ticket included);
Ex Emporium Hamburg, e-Auction 532, 18 August 2017, lot160.
Curiously, it has been noted that the head of Aeternitas on this reverse die is morphed, with the nose and chin elongated, so that it resembles an animal rather than a human.
