The daughter of the composer Josephus Andreas Fodor, Joséphine Fodor-Mainville trained as a pianist and singer and in 1810 performed at the Imperial Opera in St. Petersburg, but l. Russia when Tsar Alexander I banished foreigners from working in the theatre. She was married in 1812 to the actor Mainville.
