Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1897) AU Details (Repaired) PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y145.1, L&M-210A, Kann-66a, WS-0787, cf. Wenchao-640 (for type, this variety not listed; rarity 2 stars). Herringbone (Ornamental) edge. Variety with 1 stroke in sheng ("province"). A beloved type bearing the so-called "old Kiangnan" style dragon, and one which, owing to its first-year issuance by the mint and typically poor preservation, is highly treasured by series collectors whenever it becomes available. Still preserving a remarkable clarity and definition to the devices in spite of a light past cleaning, the coin seen here has begun to redevelop a charming amber tone in the margins, with the noted "repair" likely referring to a comparatively inconsequential spot removal on the obverse (reverse as holdered).
