Kirin. Kuang-hsü "Flower Basket" Dollar CD 1900 MS62 PCGS, Kirin mint, KM-Y183, L&M-531, Kann-397, WS-0409, Wenchao-443. Flower Vase / Evergreen Basket type, Large Characters variety. Highly conditionally challenging as a type, the 1900 Kirin "Flower Vase" Dollar does not often come to auction, yet any such appearances are regularly bound within circulated states of preservation. Noting this observation alongside current certification figures, which currently reveal a combined certified population of fewer than 100 examples between both PCGS and NGC, it quickly becomes apparent just how fleeting this issue is and how few survive in strong states of preservation. This fully Mint State emission, however, flies in the face of expectation for both its technical preservation and visual quality. Satin luminescence embellishes the open expanses, faintly decorated in a soft expression of walnut tone that gradually intensifies toward the outer registers, which contain gentle traces of crimson iridescence. This visual symmetry and sense of balance are strengthened by a firm strike, leaving clear detail throughout nearly every facet of the characters and design motifs, save for a hint of softness in the character left of the dragon and in the corresponding portion of its torso. Only the most trivial wisps cap the grade designation, leaving no distracting marks across the otherwise near-pristine surfaces. All stated, a coin of immense appeal, and one that should only draw heightened interest from collectors who treasure original tone and meticulous preservation.
