Hong Kong
British Colony. Shanghai Specie Office silver Bar of 5 Dollars ND (c. 1970s) AU, KM-X Unl. (cf. KM-XB13 for similar piece with portrait of Victoria). 58x33mm. 136.20gm of 0.9999 Fine silver. Quite intriguing, and seemingly fairly scarce, with the majority of the Shanghai Specie Bars of this type carrying the portrait of Victoria. It seems that these pieces with George VI's bust come in slightly lighter weights than the c. 155-160 grams indicated by the Standard Catalog, with the one other example we have been able to locate weighing 128.77gm. On the whole very well preserved, with some light residue from an old label on the back.
