THEODOSIUS II, A.D. 402-450. AV Solidus (4.48 gms), Constantinople Mint, A.D. 442-443. NGC MS, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Brushed.
RIC-324; Depeyrot-84/1. Obverse: Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear and shield; reverse: Constantinopolis seated left upon throne, with left foot on prow, holding globus cruciger and scepter, left elbow resting on shield at her side; star in left field; CONOB. Despite the noted brushing, which is rather obscure, this brilliant example is free from handling and presents charming eye appeal.
