GERMANY. Third Reich. Reichsmarshall Hermann Goering Cast Bronze Medal, 1940. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Kienast-580. Diameter: 113mm. By K. Goetz. Obverse: Military bust of Goering facing slightly right; Reverse: View of Goering in cockpit of a WWI fighter plane; arrow with 22 indicates his 22 aerial victories. Edge: Plain. Reddish-brown and bronze surfaces, with a pleasing and wholesome nature. Quite impressive and original.

Goering was the last commander of the Richthofen Squadron, and he garnered the "Blue Max" award, the highest WWI military honor. During the Third Reich and WWII, he served as the supreme commander of the Luftwaffe. Following the war, he was tried and convicted at Nuremberg for crimes against humanity, receiving a sentence of death by hanging, though he committed suicide by cyanide a few hours before the sentence was to be adjudicated.
