MEXICO. Oaxaca. Trio of Copper Axe Head Money (3 Pieces), ND (ca. 15th Century). Average Grade: VERY FINE.
Opitz-pp. 24/-5. Large broad head style pieces, these Aztec-made issues were current money at the time of the Spanish conquest. Often found in bundles much like the trio offered here. Dudley Easby, one time Consultative Chairman of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Primitive Art Department, surmised that the similarities between these Mexican Axe Head Monies and the nearly identical Axe Heads found in Ecuador conclusively demonstrate the existence of transcontinental commerce prior to the arrival of the Spanish. Light green patination with some minor soil deposits.

Estimate: $75.00- $150.00
