MEXICO. Guadalajara. Tridentino College Gilt Bronze Medal, 1809. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, Unc Details Gold Shield.
Grove-F-52a; Herrera-11 var. Dimensions: 37x40mm. By F. Gordilla. Obverse: Bust of Ferdinand VII facing right; Reverse: Spaniard (represented as Minerva) standing near native; both holding linked chain. Displaying exceptional quality, this medal showcases bright gilt surfaces that are free of major signs of handling. The aforementioned "mount removed" notation is in fact just a non-gilt location at the rim where a loop could have been applied, and close inspection before certification did not suggest metal movement in the area. Easily the finest surviving example of this VERY RARE medal that we have seen, and considering the quality of the engraving, and its unusual oval shape, a medal that is almost certain to head directly into a collection of established refinement.

From the Barquera Collection.

Estimate: $500.00- $1000.00
