PHILIPPINES. Contemporary Counterfeit 50 Cents, 1919-S. Imitating San Francisco Mint. VERY FINE Details. Countermarks.
cf. KM-171 (for prototype). Quite interesting and engaging, this spurious issue features a fairly solid imitation of the authentic coinage, appearing to be composed of a low-grade silver and, given the degree to which it exhibits wear, likely circulated a good deal. At some point, its dubious nature was discovered, with the word FALS (fake) stamped onto each side.
