Charles I (1625-1649), Group B, Gold Crown, 1630-1631, Class II, Tower (under King), M over A in MA, smaller single-arched crowned bust left, wearing ruff, large mark of value behind, rev. crowned square-topped shield, 2.21g, 10h, m.m. plume [over heart (or anchor) on obverse (?) only] (cf. Schneider II, 236; North 2182; Brooker 199A; Spink 2712), a most curious variety, the dies unknown to Schneider or Brooker and presenting a tantalising over strike of the privy mark for this much rarer 'true' Group B die pairing, on a bright and quite regular flan, good fine, presumably extremely rare.

Estimate: £300 - £500
