William I (1066-1087), 'Canopy' Type, Penny, Leicester, + PILLEMV REXI, King crowned facing, canopy above, rev. + IEGELPINE ON LEG, double quadrilateral with incurved sides, annulet at centre, voided fleurs at tip, 12h (North 843; BMC III/189; Spink 1252), on a concave flan, otherwise lightly porous with minor splits to peripheries, otherwise a bolder very fine, an extremely rare issue for this mint.
