Domitian. 40-as; Domitian; 81-96 AD, Rome, 86 AD, As, 12.11g. RIC-495 (C), BM-392A. Obv: IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM - COS XII CENS PER P P Bust laurate r., aegis with Medusa head and snakes on front shoulder and behind neck. Rx: S - C Two oblong shields crossed over crossed trumpets and spears, and vexillum upright. Apparently scarce as As with COS XII: not in Cohen or the Paris collection, and the BM only acquired its specimen in 1950, from the L.A. Lawrence Collection.This is an excellent As in powerful EF condition and green patination with desirable images of shields, trumpets, and spears as well as a vexillum. Highly desirable and rare in this condition. EF
