Faustina I, Diva. Dupondius; Faustina I, Diva; Died 140 AD, Rome, Dupondius (judging from fabric), 12.58g. BM-1417 (Tinchant Gift, 1937), C-258 (6 Fr.), RIC-1191B. Obv: DIVA AVG - FAVSTINA Bust draped r. Rx: PIET - AVG around, S C in exergue, Altar enclosure with doors, garlanded and with flame rising from center of roof. The altar enclosure shown was doubtless one of the honors voted to Faustina I after her death in 140 AD. Rare with only AVG not AVGVSTA in obverse legend: Strack-1253 cites only three such examples, in Paris, Stuttgart, and St. Petersburg; the BM acquired a fourth in 1937.. VF
