Militaria, World War I, Anglo-French, the Deliverance of Lille by the British, 1918, specimen bronze medal, by Henri Dropsy, General Birdwood leans from his horse to present the personification of Lille with the French flag, LILLE DÉLIVRÉE..., rev. the city square, legend below, THIS FLAG WAS CARRIED BY THE GENERAL COMMANDING...THE DELIVRANCE [sic] OF LILLE..., 68mm. (CGMP 153 D; Dropsy 1964 - ), good very fine with dark patina, very rare as a specimen; together with a regular striking, 67.5mm., extremely fine (2)
In slightly raised letters along the curve of the exergual space, the medal reads, "EPREUVE D'AUTEUR. NO 1.".
