Ptolemaic Kingdom. Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II (Physcon). Second reign, 145-116 B.C. AE chalkous (10.9 mm, 1.44 g, 12 h). Uncertain mint, possibly in Cyprus. Head of female (Aphrodite or Arsinoe III?) right / ΠTOΛEMAIOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ, double cornucopia tied with fillet. Svoronos 1160; SNG Copenhagen 650; Wieser 96. gVF, black patina with red highlights. A superb example of the type, none this nice at ACSearch.

Matt Kreutzer, in his book The Coinage System of Cleopatra VII and Augustus in Cyprus, provides circumstantial evidence that this coin type may have been issued by Cleopatra VII. This theory has been the topic of much debate and has been dismissed by Catherine Lorber, Oliver Hoover, and others.
