Impressed.; also Germany, Lusitania Medal in iron (55mm), by Karl Goetz, 5 May 1915, British copy (cf.Kienast 156), in case of issue, this with some foxing, and original descriptive leaflet, this with folds and tears. The first medal without ribbon, otherwise good very fine, the second medal with some light rust spots as usual with this metal, otherwise extremely fine. (2)

The Lusitania Medal was originally struck in Germany with the object of keeping alive in German hearts the recollection of the glorious achievement of the German Navy in deliberately destroying an unarmed passenger ship, the British ocean liner, RMS Lusitania, off the southern coast of Ireland on 7 May 1915 resulting in the death of 1,198 passengers and crew.
