QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - five clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. 155 Tpr: J.McCormack. Candn: Scouts. Impressed. Toned, small dig near top edge on reverse, a few very small edge nicks, otherwise good very fine.

Trooper John James McCormack, born at Bendigo, Vic; served with Canadian Scouts from 22Nov1901 to 02May1902 and discharged Medically Unfit; noted address on file Mr J.C.McCormack, Pitt Street, Redfern, Sydney (source: Nominal Roll WO127).

John James McCormack also served with 4Bn AIF in WWI under regimental number 1304. When he enlisted at Rosehill, Sydney, NSW he stated his occupation as bushman, his age as 35 and his next-of-kin as his sister, Mrs R.U.Kenny of Mosman, Sydney, NSW. He served at Gallipoli and was twice wounded, on 9 May 1915 with a gun shot wound to the shoulder and then again on 7 August 1915 with gun shot wounds to the right hand and right knee. He returned to Australia on 17 March 1916 and was discharged on 12 September 1916 as medically unfit with ankylosis of the right knee joint.
