CARDIGAN, Lieutenant General James Thomas Brudnell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, in charge of the British Forces in the historic Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War, signature on paper affixed to heavy paper board with a small photo of Cardigan above. Fine.
The Earl of Cardigan (1797-1868) became famous after news of the Charge of the Light Brigade reached England but his role at Balaclava was greatly exaggerated by himself. He had a varied career in and out of the military. He retired in 1866 and died after falling from a horse in 1868.
